One of the most important finishing touches on a wedding ceremony is the bride’s hair and makeup. It’s a very personal subject, requiring a sharp understanding of the art. Mari Milani (pictured at work) and Rita Longo form My Cinderella’s Dream, a Caldwell, New Jersey-based bridal hair and makeup team that also designs its own line of hair accessories called The Crystal Chignon. Mari has donated her makeup services for our engagement photo sweepstakes, running through March.
The company’s work has been recognized by WeddingWire.com and TheKnot.com, as well as Contemporary Bride magazine. Mari, a MAC professional who offers traditional and airbrushed makeup, believes in fairy tail endings, thus the name of her company. She also believes in fate and recalls one particular chance encounter that led to a day of true romance.
Mari had met the bride Lauren in the emergency room after Mari’s mother had a serious anxiety attack. Lauren, the nurse on duty, was to be married on 10/10/10 and ended up using My Cinderella’s Dream for her hair and makeup, including the bridal party, mom and mother-in-law.
“We stood in this beautiful home that her husband, a contractor, had built for her,” said Mari. “Their wedding was at Laurita Winery in a big field of sunflowers and grapevines. They arrived on a wagon filled with barrels of New Jersey wine. Lauren was truly a modern Cinderella, and her Prince did come.”
